Principal Guy A. Enfanto



TROY- Guy A. Enfanto, 91, of Riding Club Road, Troy, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 24, 1912 in Troy, he was the son of the late Angelo and Angelina J. Enfanto. He attended School #16 and graduated in 1927; Troy High School, graduated 1931; bachelor of art degree, State University of New York 1935; master of art degree, State University of Albany, New York 1941 and further study at RPI and State University Albany Graduate School. He taught French, history and Latin at Minerva Central School in Olmstedville, N.Y. from 1935-1947 and served as assistant principal from 1946-1947. While in Olmstedville, Mr. Enfanto was a choir member and taught advanced religion classes at Sacred Heart Church. He was a community and merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts of America; Red Cross Fund Drive chairman; was involved in war bond fund drives; treasurer, Minerva Fish and Game Club, Minerva, N.Y.; Essex County War Council member; auxiliary police chief, Minerva; member, Essex County War Price and Rationing Board; summer employment at National Lead Company, Tahawus, N.Y. He taught French, history and Latin from 1947-1950 at Troy High School, was the senior class advisor from 1948-1950, director of attendance from 1947-1950 and a teacher during the summer sessions of 1947, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1954 and 1956. He was the principal of Troy Summer High School in 1948, 1949, 1957, 1958. He was also appointed assistant principal of Troy High School in 1950 and served until 1958. Mr. Enfanto then served as principal from 1958-1976 and then retired January 1, 1977. He later was a lecturer in education at the graduate school at Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y. He served as lecturer from 1952-1964 and taught courses in General Methods of Trading-Social Studies Methods; Principles of Secondary Education; Principles of School Administration; Problems in Supervision; and Problems of the High School Principal. He was a member of NYS Teachers Association; State Association of School Administrators; National Association of Secondary School Principals; School Administrators of Troy, N.Y.; member, Middle School Association-Secondary Schools Evaluation Team (1955); life member, National Congress of Parents and Teachers; New York State Retired Teachers Association; honorary member-National Honor Society; member of the executive board of Troy High School Alumni Association; treasurer-Troy High School Administrators from 1950-1974; and treasurer-Troy High School Alumni Association since 1948. His community and church activities in Troy, N.Y. include an active member and first tenor of the Troy Vocal Society; board of directors of the Troy Vocal Society; Boy Scouts of America-merit badge counselor and member; member of Governor Clinton Council, Boypower Club; member, Holy Name Society, Sacred Heart Church; member, Sacred Heart Church Choir; captain, Sacred Heart Church Usher Society; lector, Sacred Heart Church; Area 9 Representative, Sacred Heart Church, Paris Council; guest speaker, Siena College Assembly Program; Kiwanis Club, St. Anthony's Church, Troy, N.Y. Holy Name Society; New York State Summer School Principal's Conference; testimonial speaker honoring E.C. Pichen, Clem Zotto, W. Kenneth Doyle and D.P. VanArnam. He was also a Eucharistic minister and patient visitor, department of pastoral care at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, N.Y. since 1979 and the treasurer of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary from 1982-1985; member, Parish Council, Sacred Heart Church, Troy, N.Y.; member, board of directors, Hope 7 Recreation and Community Center. Mr. Enfanto was elected to the Troy Board of Education on May 3, 1983.
